Posters
These posters focused on typography as the main design element supplemented by graphic shapes and color. Information hierarchies that lead to clear communication was also a priority.
Mingus Poster
The objective of this exercise was to create a concert poster that captured the essence of an artist and their music. I selected legendary jazz musician Charles Mingus. Tropes like instruments and music scales were avoided to focus on creating a more elegant design solution.
The tearing of the various stacked posters are an analogy for the many sides of the musician himself as well as the complex and energetic music he would create. The words bold, powerful, playful, and mischievous are what came to mind when I first heard “Haitian Fight Song” so I let those words guide my design.
BAM Poster
The objective of this exercise was to create a poster displaying all of the events taking place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music for December 1st - December 7th. All information had to be engaging while remaining legible. A fun and successful layout was achieved by focusing on hierarchy and integrating small-type moments throughout the composition.
